So, the comic was in ruins. Dr. Light is dead, the main character is mising, and no one seems to care. The only way to fix things and get the story back on track is divine intervention in the form of the Author. But since he/I haven't been doing this that long, the wrong sound effect is used. In hindsight, a fairly lame joke.

And the "sacking of the sound guy" is, of course, an allusion to the opening credits in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
