This is another one of my favorite comics from the early days. Like so many comics, I'll often just sit down, stare at the preceding comics, and let my wander, the ideas coming and going as they may.
In this case, I started thinking about how the casual death of Dr. Light might affect any young readers and how, if I gave a damn, I might feel the need for some sort of public service announcement to let people know that regardless of how much violence there might actually be in the comic, it doesn't condone violence in real life.
Of course, a PSA isn't necessarily all that funny on its own, so I had to come up with a punchline to finish it off, and the juxaposition of what someone says with how they act, that blatant hypocracy, can be pretty entertaining.
