Thought it wasn't intentional at the beginning of this storyline, by this point it was fairly well established that the events happening the "past" were really just a recreation being acted out by the characters. The sudden shift back to 8-bit is supposed to indicate that Roll and Dr. Light are back on stage, or something equivalent, ready to continue with the recreation. Though, lacking a main character is something of a problem. I'm not really sure what happened to this idea that the games were merely a recreation of the past. I think I eventually came to realize that I wanted to use a slightly different method of parodying for each of the games, with an acted-out recreation for the first. The second involved a time paradox, the third accidental time travel, and so on. Of course, at the time, I had no idea where I was going with any of this. I just thought dressing up Proto Man was funny. |
