One problem with trying to fill in plotholes is that your solutions don't always make complete sense when you go back and re-read the comics after the retcon has been made. For example, if this is supposed to be Dr. Wily's robotic clone, why does he know about Bass? Wouldn't only the real Dr. Wily know about that? Why would the real Dr. Wily have programmed that into his clone? Oh, sure, you can fanwank it all you want, like maybe saying that Dr. Wily tried to make his robotic clone as close to the original as possible, but we all know it's just poor writing.
