I wasn't sure what the powers of a green bug would be, so I went with leaves. Because, why not? (Which was a recurring explanation for the things that happened in this storyline.) With Rick stuck in the wall, it made sense that the Author would show up and try to help him. And by try to help him, I mean use a hammer. Never mess with a woman's hair. And no, it's not overkill.
