In order to add to the ethereal nature of the White Space, I decided not to connect the text boxes to any of the characters and leave it to the readers to figure out who's saying what. Like so many things I needlessly worried about, I was concerned that some readers would get confused and complain. No one ever did, so I guess everyone figured it out. But I find leaving things up to the readers can be a tricky tactic, as in any sufficiently large group of people there's at least one person who's both loud and stupid, which is a troublesome combination.
