If I was going to have Proto Man merge with Nate, I wasn't going to have him do the same thing Bass had done. Instead, I recolored a 16-bit Napalm Man sprite and stuck Proto Man's head on top. (And I moved the missile tube on the top of Napalm Man's head back.) As for a name, I didn't want to do "Pate" or "Prate", so I started looking at other combinations of the various letters in Proto Man and Nate's names. In the end, I went with "Protean", which I think works well.
