The beauty of Bate's answer is that it applies to both Bass and Nate, as they were both killed by Mynd the last time around. Mynd must not have immediately recognized them in their merged form, but he apparently realized that he probably couldn't easily defeat them in their combined form. Also, what better way to piss of the Mynd fans by having him slink away after his triumphant return? That's what they get for nagging me about having him come back.
