How to use mIRC

The very first thing you need to do to log into the chat is download a program that allows you to chat in IRC, such as mIRC. This guide will assume you have mIRC, so if you don't, go get it now. Don't worry, we'll wait for you.

Got it installed? Good. Now, open it up and click on the little hammer and file folder.

chat01

This should take you to the Options Window. Click on Add.

chat02

Type Bob and George or something for the description of the server. Then type in following server: irc.darkmyst.org.

chat03

Then type in your Name, Email address, and then a Nick you would like to use for chatting with. Since many Nicks are already used, you may want to consider an Alternative. Like this:

chat04

Then just click Connect to IRC Server and you should connect. Once you've connected, just type /join #bobandgeorge and you're in!

Be sure to follow the Chat Rules while you're chatting.

When you're in the chat room, the people with @'s are the Ops. They're in charge. Do what they say. Some chat rooms have half-ops, indicated by the %'s. they're in charge too, but they can't do some of the things the Ops can. Do what they say as well. And then there are sometimes people with +'s. Sometimes called voices, sometimes called hats, they are just to signify someone rather important in the room, like an Oper, which is someone that runs the server, but not the room. Got all that?

chat05

There are a few commands that you'll probably want to know about. The first are actions. To perform an action, type /me followed by what you want to do. You'll see plenty of people use this.

Another command is /nick. If you want to change your chatting name, type /nick followed by your new nick. Keep in mind that some people have registered their nicks, so you can't use them. Eventually, you might decide to register your own nick. When that time comes, ask someone in the chat how to do that.
